Since its introduction in 1979, the standards set by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class have long become the litmus test for
other premium SUV. And while its often replicated by other makers, no one has the ability to duplicate it and its success to this day. No one, that is, except Mercedes-Benz itself. With its 5.5-liter V8, the well-tested 7-speed automatic transmission, the G-Class for model year 2013 still has more than enough power to spare with an output of 388 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. New to the lineup this year, however, is the G63 AMG edition. Tuned by AMG, the legendary performance division of Mercedes-Benz, its V8 biturbo effortlessly actualize 544 horsepower with 560 lb-ft of torque. Peerless in its appearance, designers looked inward and added new interior appointments. In addition to the already luxurious accommodations, new color instrument cluster and Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment add to the experience. Both G550 and the new G63 AMG will be available at a Mercedes-Benz showroom near you this August.
