How far would you go in order to “think outside the box”? How about 2 completely irrelevant inspirations – the Raising Sun Flag of Japan and a pair of women’s dress boots from the 19th century. Blend those 2 design elements with the then new cushioning feature named Zoom Air and you have the Air Jordan XII. While only vaguely popular at its launch, mainly because of its weight and lack of ventilation, all doubts dissipated when Michael Jordan scored 38 points to win Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals, all while suffering from a serious bout of stomach flu. For 2012, Jordan Brand will mark the year with AJ12 as the “House that Jordan Built” prepares to re-launch the Air Jordan XII Taxi, Obsidian, and Playoffs. All 3 will take part in telling the History of Air and the role it played back in 1997. Official release information and availability to come soon
