The last few hold outs are finally making their moves into the so-called small sensor mirror-less camera market. During a glitzy presentation in New York yesterday, Nikon introduced its Nikon 1, a 2-camera solution for pro-sumers looking to be more hands-on in the creative process yet without the hindrances of a D-SLR. Centered around Nikon’s 10-megapixel CMOS 1-inch sensor with the new CX format and EXPEED 3 image processor, the Nikon 1 J1 is a consumer-friendly model from the Nikon 1 Series. Its hybrid AF system has a 73-point of focus, ensuring virtually no lag time between photo sequences. The ability to capture images at 10 frames-per-second is already impressive. But the camera can revs up to an incredible 60 fps when need be, making it one of the fastest camera system in the world. As with all digital cameras these days, the Nikon 1 J1 enables full HD video function, in either 1080p resolution at 30 fps or 1080i at 60 fps. Users can also dial in preferences such as 400 fps to 1200 fps for slow motion playbacks. Match it up with the new 1 NIKKOR lens system, the Nikon 1 J1 camera might just set a standard for all its competitors to follow. The standard J1 kit will include a 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 lens in matching colorways with retail price at around $649.95 US. In colors black, white, silver, red, and pink, all set to launch around October 20th.
