The lexicon of Jamaican slang in pop culture is about to get a new addition, courtesy of
Puma. The German shoemaker is introducing a new line of lightweight running-inspired sneakers called Faas – taken from the Jamaican word for “fast.” As Puma says, the new line was “born and bred in Jamaica,” inspired by the country’s famously fleet feet. As a result, the release is backed up by a
Jamaican-themed ad campaign. While the branding might seem like light fare, the three shoes in the collection – the Faas 250, 300, and 500 – show some seriously considered designed. On the structural side of things, the shoes incorporate some of Puma’s most current lightweight runner features, like a “Flex” midsole and a lateral groove in the heel to offer increased flexibility and light weight. Aesthetically, there are some major hits here though – the 300 with it’s perforated overlay and silver Puma stripe, and the 500, in extremely vibrant colors – are standouts, and are sure to find an audience.
