Built during the time of free love, rock & roll, and drugs, the Volkswagen Microbus (known as Bulli in Germany) seen its share of bong hits, sex rump, and mediocre rock star wannabes through its lifetime. This year, the German automaker will resurrect the 64 year old concept once again will an all new Volkswagen Bulli Concept. Set to debut at this week’s Geneva Auto Show, the new Volkswagen Bulli is very in the spirit of the old one, with a spacious interior, a relatively flat floor bed and that distinguish 2-tone paintwork. Instead of talking about “Mother Earth” and all the hippy gibberish, the Volkswagen Bulli will actually be an iteration of “do no hard to Mother Nature” with its 113-horsepower electric powertrain. With a full charge, its roll of lithium-ion batteries will propel the vehicle up to a distance of 186.4 miles. In place of the usual “infotainment” system at the center console, an Apple iPad takes its place with even more functionality, including navigation. Now, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Incorporated gang have no excuses to be lost. Harks back to the decade of Rock & Roll, VW asked Fender, the maker of Stratocaster electric guitar, to sanctify the concept with a baptism of classic rock in a custom stereo system. VW is planning to have the concept go into production by 2014.
