Secret agent Ethan Hunt will not only be quipped with an arsenal of high-tech weaponry, the veteran of Impossible Mission Force (IMF) will also be getting a futuristic set of wheels in the latest from the Mission Impossible franchise. Spied on the set of Mission Impossible 4 – Ghost Protocol in Mumbai, India last week was BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, the 2+2 seater hybrid concept introduced back in 2009. All parties involved, from production lead Tom Cruise, writer J.J. Abrams, to Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner, been tight lipped on how they worked the car into the script. But with its dramatic presentation, its quite difficult to forget.
Fully road-ready, rare for a concept platform, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is just 1.24 meters, or 4.1 feet, in height. The radical design gives the car a drag-coefficient of mere 0.22. Yet, an ease of entry to the vehicle thanks in part to the its large wing doors. A hybrid powerplant, a 3-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine with synchronous electrical motor on front and full hybrid at the rear, provides a respectable 328 horsepower at 75.1 miles per gallon. Because of its aerodynamic efficiency and lightweight construction, its capable of achieving 0 to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds. And while it will appear in the movies for the time being, BMW is already implementing the lessons learned from BMW Vision EfficientDynamics to its production vehicle line, such as the BMW ActiveHybrid 750i sedan, and others.
