To put it simply, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is as close as any layman can be to the famous racing circuit at Silverstone. Nearly identical to the 911 GT3 RSR race car, its 6-cylinder engine boasts a 4-liter displacement, the largest of all 911 engine. Hence, the “4.0” designation. Forged partly in titanium, its able to pump out 500-horsepower and equivalent of 460 Newton meters at 5,750 RPM with ease. A preliminary test run on the infamous Nürburgring resulted in the course’s completion at a time of 7:27. A standing start from 0 to 62 MPH came in at only 3.9 seconds, of course all made possible by a draconian weight reduction measure. The car’s bucket seats, along with its front wings and hood are fabricated out of carbon fiber. Instead of glass, plastic variant of it went into the rear windows. Porsche engineers even created lighter version of the interior carpeting.
A monstrous rear wing with side plates along with a central aligned twin tailpipe dominated the vehicle’s backend. Creating the necessary downforce to keep the aerodynamically optimized 911 on the road. One addition, however, is new and that is the front air deflection vane on both side of the car. Found only on professional race car before, the vanes, also called flics, are there to generate downforce to the front axels, thus improving cornering at high speed.
A street-legal beast of a machine, Porsche will only produce 600 of the 911 GT3 RS 4.0. Sales of the vehicle will start July 2011 with a basic retail price of 178,596 Euro, or US$ 265,000
