Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, had plenty of surprises up on his sleeve for this week’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. In presenting the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale to the gathered VIPs and industry press, Winkelmann also announced the production of Lamborghini Sesto Elemento super car. First appeared at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, the Sesto Elemento is Lamborghini’s homage to the sixth element on the periodic table – carbon. Forged in carbon fiber monocoque, the car, not since the 1986 Lamborghini Countach Evoluzione concept, weighs less than 1000 kg (or 2200 lbs). Together with the responsive V10 engine and 570 ponies on tap, the Sesto Elemento is able to reach 60 mph from a standing start in just 2.5 seconds. Already unrivaled in looks and performance, this car will also be peerless in exclusivity with only 20 units planned for a 2013 date of availability. Maybe now is a good time to save up.
