Nike Air Flow

Sort of a retrospective on Nike‘s Bruce Kilgore. After marking his mark as a designer with the launch of Air Force 1 in 1982, Kilgore took on the challenges for another key Nike product segment, its running division. With Nike’s incessant encouragement to “think outside of the box”, Kilgore devised a very unorthodox design. To replicate the softness of a plush Teddy Bear, Kilgore literally took out its stuffing and use it as the sole during the prototype phase. In Nike’s archive, he found Nike’s original marathon shoe, the Nike Sockracer, as the perfect silhouette for the upper.  What Kilgore came away with was the Nike Air Flow.  Hailed as the predecessor to future Nike running products, including the Nike Air Huarache, Air Presto, and Nike Free, the Nike Air Flow will be re-release again this June in its originals colorways of Lush Teal/Varsity Purple-Summit White (seen above) and Bright Cactus/Black-Blue Glow, the first time since they debut in 1989.  More details on availability to come at a later date
