Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 039 Aviation E6 B Flyback Watch

It was the need to determine the positioning of longitude that led British clockmaker John Harrison on a quest some 200 years ago. What came of it was the marine chronometer, a portable and accurate tool to way to read longitude, a first of its kind. With the same ethos for ingenuity and discovery, haute watch maker Richard Mille created the RM 039 Aviation E6-B Flyback for this year’s BASELWORLD exhibition. Inspired by the E6-B flight computer, originally devised in 1930s by Lieutenant Philip Dalton of the U.S. Navy, the RM 039 Aviation E6-B Flyback is a marvel of horology engineering. Comprised of some 740 parts and 58 jewels, wearers (or pilots) can calculate fuel burn, flight time, ground speed, density altitude, wind correction, and conversion of units (Naut/KM/Gallons/Liters/Feet/KG/LBS), all with the simple usage of RM 039 Aviation’s round slide rule and bi-directional bezel. The watch’s tourbillon movement powers a flyback chronograph, perfected by Mille after years of research. A power reserve of 70 hours, on display at the 2 o’clock position, means a real-time computation of necessary flight date, all without the help of electrical or digital equipment. As with many Haute Horlogerie creations by , each crafted in titanium and limited to a production run of 30 units only. After all, its a . Need we say more?
